◆Where the screws go

Hidden in the edges. Nothing on the front.

The six M3 grub screws thread in from the frame's outer edges: two in the top edge and two in each side edge. Each one pushes a soft black TPU pad onto the plate's edge inside the groove. The bottom edge has no screws because it's the seat. From the front you only see a thin lip along the top and bottom border.

✕The usual way

Tape it or drill it.

  • Double-sided tape can lift in Queensland heat and marks your paint
  • Drilling leaves permanent holes in a plate you paid good money for
  • Moving the plate to your next car means scraping or re-drilling
◆The Klampd way

Clamp it, swap it.

  • No adhesive on your plate or your paint
  • No holes in the plate. The frame uses your car's existing plate mounts
  • Fully reusable. Loosen six edge screws and the plate slides out
!Why it matters: PPQ says double-sided tape is not recommended and will void the warranty on your plates. PPQ doesn't issue brackets for Flexi plates either. Klampd fills that gap with no tape. Read PPQ's fitting note

How it works

Three steps, one hex key, about ten minutes a plate.

Mount the frame

Screw the frame to your car through the slotted floor, using your existing plate holes. The slots give you side-to-side adjustment and sit hidden behind the plate.

Slide the plate in

Push your Flexi plate up into the top groove, then let it drop onto the bottom lip. The lips only touch the blank border, never your characters.

Cut-away of the plate frame edge: a hidden M3 grub screw pushing a black TPU pad onto the plate edge

Snug the grub screws

Two screws in the top edge and two in each side edge press soft black TPU pads onto the plate's edges. Snug, then one-eighth of a turn. Steel never touches the acrylic, and no screw heads show on the front.

Watch it go on

Bolt the frame on with your car's existing plate holes and screws, slide the plate in top edge first, then snug the hidden edge grub screws with the 1.5 mm hex key. Sides first, then the top, and don't overtighten.

Pick your plate size

A frame for every PPQ Flexi plate size, all at one price: A$149 each or A$199 for a front + rear set. Cars need two plates, and you can mix regular and slimline.

Sizes are from PPQ's published Prestige & Flexi dimensions. PPQ only makes Flexi plates in the Prestige range, and PPQ doesn't supply brackets for them. Size 1 (161 mm) appears only in PPQ's help-centre size chart, so we make it to order. Euro and motorcycle plates aren't made in Flexi. How to check your size

  • 6 × M3 short heat-set inserts (3 mm long), fitted and hidden inside the frame
  • 8 × 1.0 mm black TPU edge pads (6 + 2 spares)

◆ Under the hood

Engineered around a 2.3 mm plate.

We measured a real PPQ Flexi plate, then designed the groove, lips and screw stations around it. The plate floats in a 2.65 mm channel and the grub screws do the holding, so it can expand in the summer sun without cracking.

  • Top-edge grubs push the plate down onto the bottom seat. Side-edge grubs centre it. All of them sit in the rim, out of sight from the front.
  • Black TPU pads spread each screw's load over 10 mm of edge, so there's no point pressure on the acrylic.
  • Rounded groove corners clear your plate's corners even when it's pushed fully up.
  • No backing film removed. PPQ says peeling it off voids the warranty, so we never touch it.

Number plate frame FAQ

Which size do I need?

Measure your plate's width and height, or check your PPQ order. Plates with 5-7 characters are 372 mm wide (Size 3), 3-4 characters are 291 mm wide (Size 2) and 1-2 characters are 161 mm wide (Size 1). Regular plates are 134 mm tall and slimline plates are 100 mm tall. Your front and rear can be different sizes, so choose "Front + rear set" and set the rear size separately. Every size is the same price. See the QLD Flexi plate size guide.

Which plates does Klampd fit?

Klampd is made for unframed Queensland PPQ Prestige Flexi plates (the frameless acrylic ones, about 2.3 mm thick) in all six sizes: Size 1, 2 and 3, each in slimline (100 mm tall) and regular (134 mm tall). It isn't designed for framed Prestige plates, which come with their own bracket, or for standard-issue metal plates. Euro and motorcycle plates aren't made in Flexi, so there's no Klampd for them.

How do I fit it?

Take off your old plate, screw the frame on through the slots in its floor using your car's existing plate holes, slide the Flexi plate into the top groove and drop it onto the bottom seat, then snug the side-edge grub screws and then the top-edge ones with the supplied 1.5 mm hex key: snug, plus no more than 1/8 of a turn. It takes about ten minutes a plate. Check the screws again after your first week of driving. Watch the video in our step-by-step fitting guide.

Where are the screws? Will I see them from the front?

No. There are no screws on the front. Six black M3 grub screws thread in from the frame's outer edges, two in the top edge and two in each side edge, and press soft black TPU pads onto the plate's edges. From the front you only see a slim 6 mm black border.

How long does shipping take?

Every frame is printed to order in Australia and usually ships within 5–8 business days. Tracked shipping is free Australia-wide and usually takes 2–6 business days after dispatch, depending on where you are. We don't ship overseas yet.

What if it doesn't fit? What is your returns policy?

You're covered by our 30-day fit guarantee: if the frame doesn't fit your PPQ Flexi plate, tell us within 30 days of delivery and we'll send the right size or refund you in full, including return postage. Unused change-of-mind returns are also accepted within 30 days (return postage at your cost). Frames have a 2-year warranty against cracking, warping or UV failure in normal use. Full details on our shipping & returns page.

Is it legal in Queensland?

Number plates in Queensland have to stay clearly legible and can't be obscured or covered. Klampd's lips overlap only 1.2 mm of the plate's blank border, and nothing covers the characters. You're still responsible for fitting the plate where it can be read, isn't blocked by a tow bar or bike rack, and has no tinted or clear cover over it. Please check your local rules before fitting. Klampd isn't approved or endorsed by PPQ, TMR or any government body, and this is general information, not legal advice. See the TMR number plate rules.

Will it void my PPQ warranty?

PPQ says double-sided tape will void the warranty and so will removing the black film on the back of the plate. Klampd avoids both, and you don't drill the plate. PPQ also says any method other than theirs "may" void the warranty, and we can't speak for PPQ. If that worries you, call PPQ on 136 356 before you fit it.

Does it work on curved bumpers?

The frame is flat, so it works best in a flat or gently curved plate recess. Check the frame size (plate size plus about 12 mm in width and 12.5 mm in height) fits your recess before you order. Curved-bumper versions are in development.

Will it rattle or let water sit behind the plate?

No. Soft black TPU pads keep the plate under light pressure on three edges, and drain holes along the bottom groove let rain and wash water run straight out.

Is Klampd part of PPQ?

No. Klampd is an independent Brisbane brand and isn't affiliated with Personalised Plates Queensland or the Department of Transport and Main Roads. "PPQ" and "Flexi" are used only to describe which plates the frame fits.

Your plate deserves better than tape.

Six sizes, one price. Fits in ten minutes and moves to your next car.
